Attendance, Travel, Dress & Conduct
Attendance
As a courtesy to your Conductor and your fellow musicians, all members are expected to be On Time to participate in all rehearsals, concerts and activities. Attendance will be taken and it is the responsibility of each student to check in each week with the volunteer parent taking attendance.
Members are expected to prepare their music outside of rehearsal and come prepared to Play music.
All members should bring their instrument, music, pencil and folding stand to each rehearsal. (Stands may not always be available at rehearsal/concert locations.)
If a musician has more than two (2) absences during a concert cycle, participation in the up-coming concert performance will be at the discretion of the conductor(s).
If a musician has more than two (2) tardy during a concert cycle, participation in the up-coming concert performance will be at the discretion of the conductor(s).
If a musician is absent or tardy to a performance rehearsal, participation in the concert performance will be at the discretion of the conductor(s).
Inclement Weather
If the weather in your area is unworthy for travel, please call the office and leave a message. If the weather in the local area is unworthy for travel, i.e. Public Schools closed, Southern Nazarene University campus closed, we will not have rehearsal. Please watch your local news stations KFOR, KOCO, KWTV, KSBI, we will post any changes in rehearsal or concert information on all the local channels. Yes, if you live outside the local area, you will receive a phone call.
Rehearsal Location / Concert Venues
As a member of the Oklahoma Youth Symphonies, Inc. organization all rehearsal and concert locations should be treated with respect at all times. We are guess in these facilities and we want to always leave the area just as we found it, clean and intact. Please remember our rehearsal facility is Southern Nazarene University and it is a non-smoking facility. Please remember this a college campus and we are visitors, though food and drink are allowed in the music building, when you are finished, please depose of your trash accordingly. Also remember that what you say or do is a direct reflection on the OYS organization.
Travel
From time to time the orchestras may travel through the state and outside Oklahoma performing concerts. Periodically, a foreign tour may be schedule. All members are expected to perform all concerts within the state. Travel to other states and to foreign countries is optional. Travel dress codes will be announced prior to every trip.
Dress
OYS, OYWS, YAO Concert Attire
Men
• black tuxedo
• white tuxedo shirt
• black bow tie
• black shoes
• black socks
NOTE: School tuxedos may be worn as long
as they are black in color.
NOTE: The following clothing is not allowed as
these items distract from the performances:
• athletic shoes |
Women
• plain ankle/floor length black dress
• plain ankle/floor length skirt & blouse
• pant suit with sleeves
• black shoes
NOTE: Style and fabric of dress/pant suit is left to discretion of student.
NOTE: The following clothing is not allowed as
these items distract from the performances:
• short skirts
• sleeveless
• backless or low cut dresses/tops
• dresses with deep slits or with excessive
beading, rhinestones or sequins
• spaghetti straps
• any clothing that has midrift showing |
